About NextBusTime

A fast, free and independent way to find your next bus.

What we do

NextBusTime shows you when the next bus leaves — from any stop, on any route. You can search by postcode, town, stop or route number, find the stops nearest to you, read a full timetable, and watch buses moving on the map in real time.

Everything is free, there are no accounts to create, and we don't run adverts or tracking scripts.

Where we cover

We currently cover North East England (Tyne & Wear, County Durham, Northumberland, Darlington and Tees Valley) and Yorkshire (West and South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, York, East Riding and Hull) — with bus times for every town in both regions.

We're expanding one region at a time on purpose. It would be easy to cover all of England badly; we'd rather each region be genuinely accurate before we move to the next. London is already well served by Transport for London's own tools, so it isn't a priority.

We're independent

We're not a bus operator, a council or a transport authority, and we're not affiliated with any of them. That means we've no interest in making any particular operator look good — we just show what the data says.

It also means we can't help with lost property, refunds or complaints about a journey. For those you need the operator — you can find them on our operators pages.

Where the data comes from

Bus times, routes and live vehicle positions come from the Department for Transport's Bus Open Data Service, and stop information comes from NaPTAN. Both are official open data sources. See about the data for the full detail, including licences and how often things update.

What's next

We're working on more regions, better live arrival information, and journey planning between two places. If something's missing or wrong, tell us — it genuinely shapes what we build next.
